Design Tips for a Bedroom that Helps You Sleep Better

Are you having trouble sleeping? If so, your bedroom design may need some improvement. Discover new ways to design your bedroom to help aid in better sleep.

A great bedroom design should not only focus on aesthetics. The best way to design a bedroom is by focusing on the primary function of the room – as a place to sleep. While there are some good habits that should be cultivated to promote sleep such as not using electronic devices in bed, the truth is that bedroom design plays a very large role in helping get to sleep and stay asleep throughout the evening. Through sight, smell, and sound, you can get the bedroom of your dreams so that you can dream more easily. Here are some tips to help you get started.

Visuals

In terms of colors, a bedroom designed for sleeping will use soft, warm colors as opposed to bold and bright ones. Some art that is easy on the eyes can help as well. Psychologists also note that visual clutter can subconsciously generate stressful feelings, so it’s important to keep a bedroom’s layout simple and decluttered. Ultimately, making the room feel like home when you enter is the main goal visually when designing a bedroom.

Sound

External sources of sound have been proven to reduce sleep quality through the night. If it’s possible to employ some soundproofing during the design and installation part of a remodeling project, it should be considered, especially if you live in an area with a lot of ambient noise. If there are sources of sound still bleeding through, consider a white noise machine, which can help drown those sounds out and promote better sleep.

Scent

Smells can also influence how well we sleep. Studies have noted that lavender scents are particularly, great for promoting sleep. Consider adding some essential oils to your bedroom using a reed diffuser. Be careful not to overdo it, as an overwhelming scent can lead to an opposite effect and stimulate the body rather than calm it.
