How to Choose Stools for Your Kitchen Island

Comfort and style should always go hand in hand. Here are some tips on how to choose stools for your kitchen island.

A kitchen island is the ultimate kitchen staple. Kitchen islands are beautiful and functional at the same time. But having a kitchen island installed is only part of enhancing your kitchen. The decor you choose to accessorize your kitchen island can add warmth and life to the ambiance. Then, there are the counter stools, which should be complementary regarding aesthetics but also comfortable. The point is that comfort and style should always go hand in hand. Here are some tips on how to choose stools for your kitchen island.

Consider the Height of your kitchen island Stools

A common but avoidable mistake is choosing stools that are too short or too tall. You want enough room to stretch out or cross your legs under the kitchen island comfortably. A simple fix is measuring the counter’s height, ensuring that the seat will be 12 inches below the counter’s underside. Remember that nothing is “standard”. Accurate measurements will always be your best bet.

Always Choose Comfort First

It’s surprising how many people forget about comfort when choosing furniture. Style and comfort can coexist! If you plan on sitting for hours at a time at your kitchen island, pick comfortable stools. We also recommend that you consider others in the process—the perfect chairs accommodate many sizes and heights. We know that it’s tempting to go for the cheapest option, but if you plan on living in your home for a long time, you want to make solid choices. Stools with backs and extra padding are an excellent idea. Consider footrests as well as being picky about the depth and the width of your counter stools.

Choose Kitchen Island Stools That Match the Ambiance of the Room

Use your countertop as a guide on what stools to choose. Do you have a granite countertop with flecks of gray in it? Go for gray stools! You also want to consider your kitchen style. If your kitchen is rustic, it makes sense to choose rustic-styled seating. If your kitchen has an open floor layout, you want to make sure all elements in your kitchen don’t clash with your flooring, cabinets, or dining room and living room finishes (if applicable). The point is the design and layout of a room should be cohesive.
